| Well there are many reasons people have problems with certain jewelry
and the main reason is the different metals available to jewelry
manufactures. The most common and safest metal when dealing with body
jewelry is the metal called Surgical Grade Stainless Steel 316L. There
are many names people refer to this as such as Stainless Steel, Surgical
Steel, 316L or any other combination of the words. This is the bases for
the field and is accepted by the industry due to its non porous surface
making it ideal to be sterilized by use of an autoclave, its relative
inexpensive cost and such steel in surgical grade is free of
contaminants and allergic reactions resulting from the metal are
uncommon. If you have used SS316L and believe to have suffered from a
possible reaction evaluate the type of jewelry you wore. Some jewelry
companies use SS316L for the shaft and top ball only and use other
metals most commonly Sterling silver for the shaft welds or the designed
area of the jewelry making it hard to determine the cause of the
reaction. If unsure attempt using a horseshoe or banana barbell which is
typically fully surgical grade stainless steel. To learn more about
other metals used in producing body jewelry you may find our

sold on our site is surgical grade stainless steel 316L unless noted
